The fact that it works for some people and not others, and that it works with some disks but not others is typical of a driver problem.

If it was Adaptec Direct CD? This software is full of bugs and I had a similar problem they only way too fix it is too reinstall WIN2K and don't use Direct CD. Direct CD is a law on to itself and uses a UDF file system which it activates the first time you run it. After that your CD does not work.
